長いこと同じメールアドレスを使っておられて、こんなメールを受け取ったことはありませんか？
本文は空白、タイトルもなく、宛先も指定されておらず・・・といった奇妙なメールなんですが、私が察するに、迷惑メール業者が入手したメールアドレスの生死を確認するための「偵察メール」ではないかと考えています。
一昔前は、メールの生死に関わらず片っ端から送る手法が多かったようですが、さすがにあちこちで迷惑メールへのガードがきつくなってきたこともあって、ある程度は宣伝効果があるだろう有効なメールアドレスを探っているのだと思っています。

ここのところ、少々迷惑メールの量も減ってきて何よりですが、迷惑メール対策にまた有効なサイトが登場しました。
aguse.netは、この6/12に正式版をリリースしたSPAMメール情報調査サイトで、今までにない有効な機能を備えています。

最近、迷惑メールもHTMLメールが多くなってきました。
誘導先URLを偽装できることもですが、迷惑メールを送る側でメールアドレスの生死を判断しやすいというのが１つの理由だと思われます。
例えば、私が使っている"ThunderBird"などのメーラーでは無条件に画像表示がブロックされるのですが、HTMLメールの場合、メールを開いた途端に
「このメールは参照された」
というシグナルが、迷惑メール業者に送られるようになっているものが多いです。

最近話題になっているのが、下の例にあるような「風説の流布」メールです。
似たケースはこちらにも記事がありますが、ある特定の銘柄を持っている輩が
「この銘柄は値上がり間違いなし！」
という情報をばらまいて株価を意図的につり上げ、そのすきに高値で売り抜ける手法のようです。
当然、迷惑メールに載せられてその銘柄を買った人たちは、あまりいい目には遭わないでしょう。

ある日突然、知らないところからパソコンや携帯電話にメールが届いた経験は、どなたでもお持ちのことと思います。
このサイトのカテゴリ別件数を見ていただいてもお分かりのように、これらのメールの大半が出会い系サイトや裏商品販売サイトへの誘導メールであることが多いです。

本来、このように不特定多数に対するメール配信は明らかに違法であり、送信元・誘導先・中継経路にあるインターネットプロバイダーが逐次ブロックすべき（→善良な一般の利用者から金をもらってサービス提供している）なのですが、中には利益優先・シェア拡大のみに目を奪われて、これらSPAMメールに対する対策をほとんど行ってこなかった業者も多数存在します。
最近になって、ようやく国も重い腰を上げてSPAMメール対策に乗り出しましたが、何しろこれまでほとんど野放し状態だったため、いまさらチマチマと情報収集・対策しても、とても追いつかないのが現状でしょう。
